Otis is a blessed addition to our family. Because of his age, we decided to keep Otis' original name instead of adopting the albeit cute character of "Wayne Wrangler." He's such a good boy, seems so accepting of whatever life throws his way. He really enjoys his dental/greenie treats and is learning to "sit;" and, his coat is filling in nicely. While we are at work, he spends the day at Grandmommy's and Pawpaw's house and hunts birds and lizards with Emma, the family yorkie-poodle.
Otis likes to play "Ready, Set, Go" with our daughter...we push her really fast down the hallway in her Cozy Coupe toddler car, and Otis runs alongside; she just giggles and says "Oood-ah." He spends a lot of time playing peek-a-boo under the blankets; and, every morning he wakes us up with kisses! He's definitely a 'morning-dog', it's like he's just happy to get another day. Whenever one of us returns from the store, he runs to greet us at the door and bounces around with excitement. He also likes playing fetch with his ball and binkie toys. Whenever and wherever we take a moment to pause, sit down, or unwind, he capitalizes on the open invitation to be in our laps, or in our faces, or both.
He would tell you that his first bath time at home was a little nerve-wrecking; but, the second time (because he couldn't resist but finding something smelly to roll in), I sang "Tell Your Heart to Beat Again" to him, and he enjoyed it. He really did. I think he likes singing.
We're so impressed by Otis' spirit. Despite his obviously apparent emotional scarring, he is so patient, affectionate, well-mannered, gentle, and grateful. Otis has already taught us a lot in this past week and half. Thank you to DREAM for saving him so that we could share life and love with him. We're looking forward to taking him on our family vacation to Colorado - we just know he's going to have a blast!
P.S. we extended his name to a lengthier one, as befits a dachshund, as befits this little guy. Otis Redding Rattail. If "Rattail" wasn't in his Pedigree, it should have been.
"Tell your heart to beat again. Close your eyes and breathe it in. Let the shadows fall away. Step into the light of grace. Yesterday's a closing door, you don't live there anymore. Say goodbye to where you've been, and tell your heart to beat again. Beginning, just let that word wash over you. It's alright now. Love's healing hands have pulled you through; so get back up, take step one, leave the darkness, feel the sun. Cause your story's far from over, and your journey's just begun."
