Mary has such a bittersweet story. She was picked up by an animal control officer with a litter of pups. One by one her puppies were adopted, and Mary who has a reserved, calm almost stoic personality, kept getting overlooked. Months and months went by, she even attended adoption events and was always very well behaved, but no one seemed to be interested in adopting Mary. My daughter who volunteers at this shelter said it was so heartbreaking to see Mary just laying there at the back of her pen, she got to the point where she wouldn't even get up to go on walks, she was becoming so lethargic and depressed. So one weekend my daughter brought her home just to give her a break from the shelter. (It's funny her kennel card did say Hound/Dachshund mix even though I'm certain she is a hound/black mouth curr mix!) At first when I met her, I wanted to change her name but sadly, she had been at the shelter for so long, she actually knew her name as Mary. She is the absolute best dog, completely housetrained, gentle natured, great with other dogs, unbelievably calm, perfect house manners, extremely obedient, I could go on and on. This dog doesn't have any negatives, if I had to come up with something, I would say she needs a family with a laid back lifestyle, not really hectic or busy with lots of new people coming and going. This would probably overwhelm her and she would just go get into her bed! I truly hope we can find her a home through DREAM because she really deserves a loving family of her own. The vet estimates her age at 2 yrs old, and she's just over 20 lbs. Her coat is as soft as velvet, she's is a good car rider, just lays in her bed, she lets you trim her nails without issue, and she is not food or toy aggressive. Lastly, she rolls over for belly rubs all the time, maybe she IS a small part dachshund!
