Update on our sweet Lucas Loveboat: Little Lucas had surgery on February 26th. One of our incredible veterinary surgeons performed an ulna ostectomy on both of his front legs and he will probably require additional surgery when he's a little older. Both our vet and his amazing foster mom agree that he is doing great, but it is a bit of a challenge to keep him resting in his crate for so long, when all he wants to do is be the playful, happy go lucky little fellow we know he is and will be again one day soon! Thank you for continuing to send good, healing thoughts for this precious boy!
This adorable little 4 1/2 month old, 9 lb. Dapple Piebald is our Lucas Loveboat. His temporary foster mom gave him a glowing report! She indicated that this boy is really, really special and even though she only spent a weekend with him, they were inseparable, and he totally stole a piece of her heart. She said he is simply an angel with the sweetest personality. He is well-behaved, playful and really good with other dogs. He loves being with people, likes to snuggle and gives lots of kisses. What makes Lucas extra special, is that he is dealing with an unfortunate physical condition, which, if DREAMs come true, we hope can be corrected.
Lucas quickly became a DREAM Dachshund as soon as we received the call for help from a local shelter. His stray hold had been up seven days earlier, but he continued to sit there for another week while waiting on their medical diagnosis. They said he was not an "adoptable candidate" because of his medical condition, and they had tried unsuccessfully reaching out to other rescues. Their records indicated that one front leg had been broken and his other front leg could have some sort of birth defect, making it hard to find placement for him. But all it took was one call to DREAM and this bundle of love was on his way!
We had little Lucas assessed at one of our veterinary clinics, but the surgeon felt, after viewing the X-rays, that this pup should be seen by an orthopedic specialist, so we're hoping that consultation will happen early this week. Please take a look at this sweet baby boy. We're sure you'll agree that he is totally worth it! He gets around ok now, albeit a little unstable on one leg. But no matter what it takes, DREAM is determined to give Lucas whatever he needs so he can live his life as a strong, happy go lucky puppy and grow to be loved by a caring, future fur-ever family!
